The Land Conservancy of West Michigan and the City of Saugatuck are celebrating the preservation of 173 acres now known as the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at the north end of Oval Beach in Saugatuck. The celebration, which is open to the public, will include a short ceremony to thank donors and unveil the donor signs, some summer refreshments, and optional hikes through the dunelands.

A grant of $10.5 million from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund with a federal grant from the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program of $3 million and over $2.5 million raised by the Land Conservancy of West Michigan and a financial partnership with The Nature Conservancy all contributed to an overall $22.1 million in funding for the project. The land was purchased from Aubrey McClendon in 2009. A long-term endowment fund for the upkeep of the property will be controlled by the city.

Guided Tours led by The Land Conservancy of West Michigan docents immediately following the dedication: short, medium and long duration (your choice).

Casual attire.

From those of us who enjoy nature and love the great outdoors and love the fact that everyone has access to it.

Of course you can always hit the beach by yourself and your significant other, go fishing, rent a kayak, take a hike at the state park.....just sayin
