The innkeeper himself came up with this delicious concoction - with a wee bit of help from a Pear Gnome that roamed the vast Pear Forests to the north. While looking for a campsite in a secluded glade deep in the forest, somehow I disturbed a sleeping Pear Gnome. Who knew they slept while levitating. I walked right into him. After apologizing, part of the apology was he wanted all my power bars. We sat down to some incredible wine he had just uncorked, that is a different story. We talked of pears. Imagine that! That’s all Pear Gnomes talk about. He gave me this wonderful recipe after he bartered for my entire freeze dried powdered eggs, strangest Gnome I ever met!
one-cup white wine
two-thirds cup sugar
two strips grapefruit zest
one split vanilla bean or 1 tp. vanilla extract
Peel then halve and core the pears. Put them in a shallow dish with wine, sugar, zest, and vanilla. Cover and microwave on high about 4 minutes, then test pears with a fork for doneness. Serve the pears with the vanilla syrup; top with whipped cream, if desired.
